Underwriting Manager

OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB:

Participate in the product design and pricing policy of the company, as well as development of the underwriting philosophy. Develop and manage relationships with local insurers, participate in negotiation of fronting agreements and ensure underwriting targets are met across your area.

 

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Underwriting:

  • In conjunction with the Underwriting Director, actively participate in the development, implementation and maintenance of underwriting processes.
  • Keep written guidelines and manuals up-to-date, circulating details of any changes or developments across the business so as to ensure adherence to underwriting standards.
  • Provide training and support sessions for Business Development and Operational teams to ensure awareness and understanding of underwriting standards.
  • Work closely with the Business Development teams to contribute to the strategic direction of our medical plans, ensuring that our pricing and underwriting conditions are commercially viable whilst also providing adequate risk management for the company.
  • Take all necessary corrective actions to maintain the long term viability of the portfolios.
  • Act as technical point of reference for all Operational and Business Development staff within your assigned region.
  • Perform underwriting performance analysis of all product lines.
  • Participate to the development of policy wordings and new products.
  • Provide underwriting input to large group schemes and complex claims.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of fronting agreements with local insurers and maintain the company’s relationships with them.
  • Represent the company in all meetings with local insurers.
  • Participate in the monitoring the underwriting performance of all the company’s portfolios and assist the Underwriting Director in the preparation of management information reports on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis to be submitted to the board of the company and the insurers.
  • Prepare all quotations for the assigned region.
  • Monitor the FMU process for individual policies in your region.
  • Underwrite complicated individual applications.
